Physics Discussion Groups

There are several groups offering a web-community for teachers. One that is widely recommended by representatives from the United Kingdom is PTNC (Physics Teachers News and Comment) a virtual network of teachers and enthusiasts who pool their collective knowledge to answer/solve any problem or difficulty relating to any aspect of Physics.

For example, if you were planning a unit on rotational movement but were not satisfied with resources on-site, you could post the question: "Does anyone know a good resource to show that acceleration points to the center of the 'circle' when a moving object curves?" The question is posted to all those on the list (several hundred and growing) who can read the question and possibly offer a suitable solution.

Those who use it say it's wonderful, although it will definitely increase the amount of messages in your inbox.

        Getting on:
        Address an email to PTNC-request@iop.org

Use no subject line In the body of the email type:

subscribe PTNC your email address

This will add you to the list and tell you so afterwards. You must subscribe
from the same email address to as the one you want the list to communicate
with.

Then you can contribute, respond and receive.

Please, please, please:

1) make sure your clever e-mail program is set to send plain text only.

2) do **not** send instructions about joining and leaving to the whole list.

We aim to feed plenty of news in from the Institute of Physics but, in the end, the list
will only be as strong as its membership. Use it and we all gain.
The scope of the discussion area is as wide and as narrow as teaching Physics in Schools.
Feel free to bring anything that is of use to the attention of others, write about concerns you need to

express and put questions you have.

Just remember to be positive, polite and constructive!

Plain text and no
attachments please.

Getting off again:

This will remove you from the list and tell you so afterwards.
