Teaching Standard Model at high school Introduction |
to the teacher
Dear Colleague,
We would like to give you a little help for teaching Particle Physics
and the Standard Model. This material covers the history of the Standard Model: how
scientists got there, and what were the main concepts involved. We try to
explain the new terms that appear, thus making it easier to answer the students'
questions. We also give some topics for discussion. The suggested time for this
introduction is 45 minutes; given that time, one shouldn't try to get all the
topics discussed in depth.
We strongly suggest, as a main point in our timeline, to emphasize the role of
the Standard Model as an organizing principle which simplified the
picture of the numerous particles and conservation laws.
