The higher charges on the Ne nuclei exert greater forces on charged particles travelling through the bubble chamber liquid. These produce greater accelerations, and hence more loss of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation.
This is the idea behind `electromagnetic calorimeters’ in modern detectors at colliders.
