Hola! My name is Aline Guevara Villegas. I’m a little surprised and scared, because it seems that I’m the only one who’s not a highschool teacher with a physicist background!!! I’m a graphic designer who always loved science. When I was a little kid I saw ‘Cosmos’. Right afterwards I decided I wanted to be a science communicator, but one that could use images to talk about science to others. That’s what I do today at Universum, the Science Museum of our main University, UNAM, in Mexico City.
As I said, I’m not a physicist but I always felt amazed by physics. That’s one of my hobbies. Another one is music: I listen to a lot of it, and play cello and guitar, but only for myself!!
Now I’m doing my master’s degree studies in Philosophy of Science. I intend to analyse what kind of conceptions of science do we, as science communicators (teachers included!) present to our interlocutor (e.g. a student, the public of a museum, a reader of a magazine). Is our conception an accurate one? Does it reflect what science is? Does it adapt to the contemporary needs from our societies? Can we, through these conceptions of science, close the gap between science and the so-called ‘everyday life’?
I only have to say that I can’t wait to meet you all!
