My name is Zeger-Jan Kock. I am 43 years old and I teach physics at the International Secondary School in Eindhoven in the south of the Netherlands. My school follows the curricula of the International Baccalaureate organisation. In addition to teaching I am the IT coordinator of the school, involved in user assistance and the further development of IT as part of education at my school. Being originally trained as a mechanical engineer, particle physics has never been my strongest point. I welcome the opportunity Cern provides to follow a 3 week summer course. I hope it will give me a stronger background in particle physics and I hope to come home with many new teaching ideas. The experience of meeting with scientists, the cutting edge of science and with other physics teachers from many countries across Europe and beyond is very inspiring. My school is about to start a Comenius project together with 4 others schools across Europe. Theme of the project is 'European cooperation of high school students through the study of The Sun'. Ideas from particle physics are likely to get a place in this project. The time I am not teaching I spend with my family and doing sports (skating, Aikido), hiking, reading books and watching movies.
