I am 51 years old
and I teach physics and mathematics at the Berger Scholengemeenschap in
Bergen which is a few kilometers west of Alkmaar.
In the 1970’s I
trained as a particle physicist and I participated in the NA5 experiment at
CERN from 1978 to 1982.
After that I
worked in IT or more than 20 years. Some 5 years ago I decided to become a
teacher. I realized quickly that my knowledge of particle physics had become
a bit outdated.
The
HST-2008 programme has given me the
opportunity to see and hear about the current state-of-the-art
in particle physics. We were lucky to
still be able to visit the large detectors before the LHC starts running. In
the lecture program many subjects were presented concisely yet very clearly.
Also I have had
time to think about what I can do to present physics in a more challenging
way to my students.
In my spare time
I like to read and study physics and broadly related subjects.
