Hi, I am Cheryl Brooks. I have
been teaching for 23 years, five of those years in New Mexico and the
remainder of the years in Fort Worth, Texas. I am certified in composite
science and have taught every science from grades 5-12 except Earth Science.
I am currently teaching AP Physics, AP Chemistry and Pre-AP Physics at
Boswell High School in Fort Worth.
I have been involved with
QuarkNet for the last eleven years as a lead teacher at the University of
Texas at Arlington. I am currently an e-lab Fellow and I have a cosmic ray
detector in my classroom that students have used for research. My
students and granddaughter presented their research at the National Science
Teachers Conference in Dallas in 2004.
In the summers in addition to
working part time at the University of Texas at Arlington, I love to
participate in teacher enrichment programs that expose me to new insights
and experiences that I can share with my students in the classroom. I have
been trained in Operation Physics in San Diego. I was a TRAC teacher at the
Hanford Site in Washington State. I’ve done research in anatomy and
physiology at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center. In
addition to attending several workshops at FermiLab for QuarkNet, I have
also participated in MARSFEST, a NASA sponsored program that studied the
perma frost in Alaska.
The most faithful supporter of
my science teaching is the love of my life, my husband of 38 years, Gary. We
have three adult children and four grandchildren that keep us busy with
their sports and school activities.
